Homemade vs Instant Baby Food
The fresher the better. By that, we can conclude that homemade food is a winner. I personally prefer homemade than instant baby food. So I always prepare and cook baby food everyday. We all know that in homemade foods we can assure the hygiene and the safety. We wash, clean, and cook the raw food throughly so our baby can eat the healthiest, nutritious possible food. Well at least thats what in my mind. So for the safety, we always select the right food according to their age. Process the food appropriate to their taste and their eating ability. Avoid certain foods and spices until the baby reach certain age, e.g salt, sugar, honey, fish, dairy etc. No chemical additives or preservatives.
Its not like I never give my baby those boxed or canned baby foods. Im not against them. I do give him instant food, especially baby biscuits. The first time I introduced him with commercial baby biscuit, he liked it a lot. So it continues on until now. I also give him other commercial baby foods whenever we go on travelling or when we just hanging out somewhere away from home. I know lotsa mothers prepare and bring homemade baby food even when they are travelling. Well thats their choice. I do that too, but not always. For me, had enough 'keribetan' at home so I wanna be less 'ribet' and more relax whenever we go out. I also give instant food whenever he gets picky. When he just wont open his mouth even from the first spoon, I will switch to instant food right away. If he likes it, he will eat it. If he still wont open his mouth, then I gotta think of something else like playing with him. The thing in feeding your baby is dont be too ideal or strict to yourself cuz it will kill you. hehehe. Be flexible.
Instant baby food some times wont harm your kid. I know they usually contain milk, sugar, salt, and other chemical additives. But dont forget to mention they also provide high micronutrients compared to the one we make at home in 1 serving size. If we think again, giving cheddar cheese to the baby is kinda the same like instant food. Its high in salt. Or if we make a bigger batch of food for the baby and store it in a freezer, it still preservation. Just like a preservative in an instant food. Its just a different method of preservation. But forget that, we want to make mealtime enjoyable to our baby. If they refuse to eat foods that we make, we can try by playing with 'em, cook some foods new to em, just be creative, or if u wish, give em instant food. NOT most of the time obviously.
I remember this famous pediatrician when she said dont be too ideal when dealing with a picky eater. Especially when the baby in GTM (gerakan tutup mulut) state. We can give him canned food and see how he reacts. After that we can continue on innovating homemade baby food that can be enjoyed by our baby.
